The Rivers State Government has closed down the Africa Independent Television, AIT, and Raypower FM operations in Port Harcourt, the capital city of the state.
The media organization had taken to the social media platform, X, on Sunday, September 3 to announce that the State Government had shut down its operations through paid telecommunications engineers who had arrived together with armed security operatives.

The post had read:
“The contractors cut off the wave guard from the antenna on the mast while riggers had been spotted taking down the mast.
Additionally, bulldozers were utilised in demolishing the Transmitter Complex at DAAR Communications PLC Broadcast Centre.”
An official from the telecommunications’ contractor had told the organization that they had operated on an order issued from above to begin the demolition on Sunday.
It is noteworthy to mention that the State government had in March given a 48-hours (2 days) quit notice to DAAR Communication Plc, claiming that the area had been picked out for a GRA phase 5 in Ozuoba.
